Discover Lassen

Day 1: Fair & BBQ (8/10/19)

Discover Lassen is a two-day, family-friendly fundraising event to benefit Lassen Park Foundation.  The event focuses on encouraging guests to get to know Lassen Volcanic National Park (LAVO) for the first time or better than they already do.  This family-friendly event is done over a two-day weekend with the first day focusing on the north end of the park (near Mazanita Lake) and the second day focusing on the south end of the park (near the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center).

The first day (Saturday, August 10) of Discover Lassen features a fair at Loomis Plaza, just outside of the Loomis Museum at Manzanita Lake.  The fair runs from 11am – 1pm and features every department of LAVO staff providing entertainment and education, telling their story of what they do to keep the park running and keep the land beautiful.

The fair also features a BBQ in partnership with Anderson Rotary, with all proceeds benefiting Lassen Park Foundation.  In 2019 small group hikes are being added to the activities after the fair (1pm – 3pm); the hike around Manzanita Lake is to encourage guests to explore the northern area of the park.  Registrations for the hike will be available in-person at the event.

Activities will be located in Loomis Plaza and the Manzanita Lake area.  Access via Highway 44 and Lassen Volcanic National Park entrance on Highway 89.

Manzanita Lake Trail: Easy, mostly flat trail wraps around Manzanita Lake. Superb views of Lassen Peak and Chaos Crags. Great for birdwatchers, wildflower enthusiasts and families. Trail is considered Easy, approximately 1.5 miles round trip with no elevation change. Group hikes will begin at Loomis Plaza.

Day 2: Hike-A-Thon (8/11/19)

The second day (Sunday, August 11) of Discover Lassen features a Hike-A-Thon around two to three major trails near the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center between 8am – 4pm.  Registration for the Hike-a-thon ranges from $20 - $50 per person and includes t-shirts, bibs, trail snacks, water, and a commemorative patch for each trail completed.
